Michael Anastassiades trained as a civil engineer at Imperial College before taking a master’s in industrial design at the Royal College of Art; he founded his studio in 1994 and his own brand in 2007. The lighting, furniture and objects that followed have made him one of the most quietly influential designers working in Britain — Royal Designer for Industry in 2015, the ADI Compasso d’Oro in 2020, the London Design Medal in 2025, and an OBE for services to design in 2024.
He appears at the Hellenic Centre with the writer and curator Emily King to talk about process, and specifically about how fundamentally iterative design is: the versions, the returns, the long way round to an object that ends up looking inevitable. The conversation draws on his recent exhibitions in Athens and Tokyo, and admission is £5, free to members.
