A scientist on the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter mission and an actress-singer stage the Sun as both live data and Cypriot myth at Cyprus House this October.
Dr Georgios Nicolaou, a scientist on the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter mission, stages the Sun at Cyprus House in St James’s on Wednesday 21 October 2026. The actress and singer Elena Hadjiafxendi performs with him.
Solar Orbiter is the spacecraft now returning data from closer to the Sun than any before it. Nicolaou created Space on Stage: The Sun with Hadjiafxendi to set the star’s physics against the beliefs it has inspired in Cyprus since antiquity.
The two run science and story through the same evening. Nicolaou narrates and plays guitar and other acoustic instruments, and Hadjiafxendi narrates and sings.
Cyprus House is the home of the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission, which programmes films, lectures and exhibitions in the building. Charles II granted St James’s Square to the Earl of St Albans in 1662. The square has since held the London Library, Chatham House and four private members’ clubs.
Admission is free, with places booked in advance. A wine reception follows the performance.
