The London Greek Film Festival marked its nineteenth year with an awards ceremony at the Embassy of Greece in Holland Park on Thursday 26 June 2025.
Founded in London in 2008, the festival set out to be a meeting point for Greek film wherever it is made. It takes entries from Greek and Cypriot film-makers worldwide on any subject, and from film-makers of any nationality whose work turns on Greece’s myths, history or scenery.
Films and screenplays compete in three strands. The Odysseus Awards have run since the first edition and take their name from the personal journey a film makes. The Cosmocinema Awards followed in 2018 for the more classically cinematic entries, and the Acting Code Awards in 2022 for a more contemporary approach.
None of the awards carries a cash prize, so selection is what the films compete for. Since 2020 the festival has judged online through the year and met in person only for the awards.
The 2025 ceremony honoured the year’s Odysseus, Cosmocinema and Acting Code selections before the diaspora’s directors, actors and cultural figures. The festival holds its ceremony at the embassy every summer.
