London's flagship Greek philanthropic gala marked a decade of supporting Greece's recovery, with an evening of patrons, diplomacy and quiet glamour at Mayfair's newest grande dame.
The Greek singer Antonis Remos performed at the Hellenic Initiative’s London gala, held at The Chancery Rosewood in Mayfair on Friday 9 October 2026. The evening marked ten years of the gala.
The Hellenic Initiative was founded in 2012, at the depth of the Greek financial crisis, by members of the diaspora. They had concluded that appeals for sympathy would not rebuild an economy.
It is a development organisation. It funds job creation, entrepreneurship programmes and crisis relief inside Greece. It raises the money from Greeks abroad, on the argument that a country of 11 million has a diaspora several times that size.
The London gala is one of only two evenings the organisation builds its year around, and it carries the whole of its British fundraising in a single night.
Patrons, shipowners, diplomats and the wider Anglo-Greek establishment filled one room on Grosvenor Square. The evening opened with a reception, followed by a seated dinner and awards. Remos, who has sold out arenas across the Greek-speaking world for 25 years, closed the evening.
