Greece's Minister for the National Economy and Finance took questions from the Hellenic Bankers Association and the LSE Hellenic Observatory on debt, growth and digital governance.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece’s Minister for the National Economy and Finance, spoke for the Hellenic Bankers Association UK at the LSE Campus in Holborn on Friday 14 November 2025. The LSE Hellenic Observatory co-hosted.
Pierrakakis was born in Athens in 1983 and grew up in Kato Patisia. He studied computer science at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He then took a Master in Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School and a Master in Technology Policy at MIT.
He ran the research institute diaNEOsis from 2015 to 2019, then entered government as Minister of State and Minister for Digital Governance. He built the gov.gr platform, which moved Greek public services online. He became Minister for Education, Religious Affairs and Sport in 2023 and took the finance ministry in March 2025.
The talk ran from public debt and inflation to education reform and digital governance. London’s Greek financial community heard the minister’s own account of the policy, at a location disclosed only to registered guests.
Professor Vassilis Monastiriotis, who holds the Eleftherios Venizelos Chair of Contemporary Greek Studies at the LSE, chaired the discussion. Xenofon Zacharoudis, the Association’s chairman, opened it.
