Benedict Andrews makes his National Theatre debut with a work that sets Sophocles’ Electra against Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 film Persona and plays the two as one evening. The tragedy of a daughter waiting on her brother’s return meets a study of two women whose identities dissolve into each other.

Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss lead, with Ella Lily Hyland completing the central trio. Hildur Guðnadóttir composes, Magda Willi designs the set and Jon Clark the lighting. It runs in the Lyttelton from 19 August to 10 October — the first time Blanchett and Hoss have worked together since Tár.
