Travellers Club

The Travellers Club has occupied 106 Pall Mall since 1832, when Charles Barry completed what remains the oldest purpose-built clubhouse in London. The building is Grade I listed. The club itself was founded in 1819, in the years after the Congress of Vienna, to receive visiting diplomats and travellers from abroad, and its principal rooms were laid out for precisely that purpose: entertaining.

Seven rooms are let for private events. They run from the Castlereagh Room, secluded enough for thirty at dinner, up to the Smoking Room, which seats 160 beneath paintings of a standard rarely seen outside a national collection. The Coffee Room is the club's main dining room, decorated in Barry's original colours, with an ornate ceiling, crystal chandeliers and infinity mirrors. The Inner and Outer Morning Rooms open into one another through double doors, and it is in the Outer that the club lays a chequerboard dance floor; taken together the pair holds 220 for a reception.

Hire runs through the club's own banqueting team rather than an agency. PA equipment and screens are available in-house, and the club has negotiated access to the Crown Estate's Carlton House Terrace Gardens behind the building. A jacket-and-tie dress code applies during the week and relaxes at weekends.
