The Pelham

The Pelham occupies three white-stucco Victorian townhouses on Cromwell Place, directly across from South Kensington station and a short walk from the Victoria and Albert Museum. Kit Kemp designed its interiors in 1989, and the hotel still carries her early hand throughout: a reception hall dressed in black lacquer panelling and antique mirror, wood-panelled sitting rooms hung with gilt-framed portraits, and bedrooms mixing period furniture with bright, patterned fabric. Starhotels Collezione, the Italian hotel group, has owned the property since 2014.
Five rooms take private hire, spread across the ground and lower-ground floors. The Gallery is the largest, a bright, floor-to-ceiling-windowed room over Cromwell Place with a lime-green feature wall and its own fireplace, connecting through to the smaller Gallery Lounge next door for bigger events. The wood-panelled Drawing Room and Library sit off the main reception, each with its own fireplace and, in the Drawing Room's case, a well-stocked Honesty Bar. A separate Private Dining Room, its walls in pink stripe and rose-print curtains, sits beside La Trattoria by Alfredo Russo on the lower ground floor.
La Trattoria itself takes its own private entrance off Cromwell Place, an option the hotel describes as its most exclusive booking. Head Chef Roberto Roncolato runs the kitchen, serving traditional Italian dishes to a room hung with large, colourful figurative murals. Every meeting room carries a projector and a large screen as standard, and the hotel's in-house Event Team handles the practical running of a booking.

La Trattoria
Exclusive HireThe hotel's own Italian restaurant, on the lower ground floor with its own private entrance off Cromwell Place. Large figurative murals of musicians and dancers cover the walls above a mix of long tables and round two-tops, under a striped, candy-pink colour scheme. Head Chef Roberto Roncolato serves traditional Italian dishes, and the private entrance allows the whole room to be taken over separately from the rest of the hotel.
The Gallery
Exclusive HireThe hotel's largest event room, its floor-to-ceiling windows facing Cromwell Place. A lime-green feature wall, pink-and-orange striped curtains and a run of framed artworks sit opposite a stone fireplace and wall-mounted screen. Laid out as a theatre, boardroom or dinner depending on the booking, and connects through to the adjoining Gallery Lounge for larger events.
The Drawing Room
PrivateThe hotel's main ground-floor sitting room, off the reception, with three large sash windows overlooking Cromwell Place. Wood-panelled walls, oversized mirrors and a green-marble fireplace give it the character of a members' club, and a well-stocked Honesty Bar of champagne, spirits and soft drinks serves residents and private-hire guests alike, alongside canapés by the fire in winter.
Private Dining Room
PrivateA pink-striped room on the lower ground floor, next to La Trattoria, with rose-print curtains and a carved stone fireplace beneath a wall-mounted screen. Bright by day for a working breakfast, and set for a formal dinner by night.
The Library
PrivateA dark wood-panelled room tucked off the reception, lined with glass-fronted bookcases and hung with gilt-framed portraits above a marble fireplace. Used by day as a residents' sitting room, and by night for private dinners and drinks receptions.
The Gallery Lounge
PrivateA smaller, cosier room next to The Gallery, furnished with sofas and magenta velvet armchairs beneath a large woven wall-hanging. Suited to relaxed drinks and casual gatherings on its own, or opened through to The Gallery for a larger event.
