Tallow Chandlers' Hall

The Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers has occupied a site on Dowgate Hill since 1476. The medieval hall was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666; its replacement, built in 1672 and still standing behind the Company's wrought-iron gates opposite the Dowgate Hill exit of Cannon Street station, sits a short walk from the London Stone.
The Livery Hall, the Company's principal room, is panelled in dark oak beneath an 1868 ceiling installed to replace the original roof timbers, and hung with heraldic stained glass and portraits of past Masters. It suffered fire damage during the Second World War and was fully restored between 1947 and 1955. The Parlour keeps its seventeenth-century oak panelling, commissioned under Sir Joseph Sheldon during his mayoralty, and the Court Room its original Stuart-era seating and Master's dais. In summer, hire extends into the courtyard, fully restored in 2021 with York stone paving and olive trees.
Life's Kitchen has catered the Hall exclusively since 2010. Hire enquiries route through the Company's Beadle and Hall Manager, who oversees bookings across the Livery Hall, Parlour, Court Room and Courtyard.

The Courtyard
PrivateA secluded courtyard behind the Company's wrought-iron gates on Dowgate Hill, fully restored in 2021 and laid in York stone with olive trees and seasonal planting. Used for outdoor drinks and summer receptions alongside the Hall.
The Livery Hall
Exclusive HireThe Company's principal room and one of the larger livery halls in the City, panelled throughout in dark oak beneath a ceiling installed in 1868 to replace the original seventeenth-century roof timbers. Heraldic stained glass and portraits of past Masters line the walls, above a carved and gilded display recess at the top table end. The room suffered fire damage during the Second World War and was fully restored between 1947 and 1955.
The Parlour
PrivateA seventeenth-century room with oak panelling commissioned by Sir Joseph Sheldon, Lord Mayor of London in 1676, set beneath an ornate plaster ceiling. Suited to a reception before or after a dinner in the Livery Hall, or to a smaller lunch or meeting in its own right.
The Court Room
PrivateThe Company's original Stuart-era courtroom, retaining its seventeenth-century seating, Master's dais and sliding bar entrance. A compact, wood-panelled room for a small meeting or private dinner, reached by stair to the second floor with limited disabled access.
