Grove of Narberth

Grove of Narberth sits in 26 acres of meadow, woodland and garden in the Narberth hills, with views towards the Preseli Hills and the Pembrokeshire coast a short drive away. The site goes back to a fifteenth-century Welsh longhouse, which still stands apart from the main house. Daniel Poyer inherited the property in 1677, and in 1874 the architect John Pollard Seddon extended the house in a neo-gothic style, adding the hallway, staircase and lounge, and the ornate ceramic fireplaces he designed himself. Neil and Zoe Kedward bought it derelict and restored it as a small independent hotel, which now holds a Michelin Key.

The food is the draw. Fernery opened in 2018, is led by Executive Chef Douglas Balish and holds four AA Rosettes. It serves tasting menus built on Welsh produce, much of it from the kitchen garden. The Artisan Rooms brasserie is the easier room, light-filled and dressed in Welsh crafts and textiles, with a garden terrace under the apple trees in summer.

For a celebration the house can be taken whole. Exclusive use gives a party the hotel, its grounds and gardens, with every bedroom held for the guests: 64 seated for a daytime meal, 120 for an evening reception. Smaller parties of up to 20 can take Fernery, the Terrace Room or the Willow Room for a private lunch, dinner or afternoon tea, and the events team builds the menus around the occasion.
