Clos Maggiore

Clos Maggiore has occupied a quiet corner of King Street since 1996, and its conservatory is the room everyone comes for: a vaulted dining space canopied in white cherry and apple blossom, lit by candlelight beneath a retractable glass roof that opens to the sky in summer and frames a starlit ceiling in winter. A log fire anchors one end. It is regularly named among London's most romantic dining rooms and is the city's most requested setting for marriage proposals, which tells you most of what you need to know about the atmosphere.

The cooking is modern French, and the cellar is the restaurant's other obsession: more than 2,500 bins drawn from eighteen countries and vintages spanning four centuries, recognised with the Wine Spectator Grand Award in 2025. Upstairs, a wood-panelled private dining room with a roaring fire, framed botanical prints and tall windows over Covent Garden offers a warmer, more enclosed counterpart to the blossom below, with the feel of a private drawing room.

For a private event the appeal is the intimacy. The whole restaurant can be taken exclusively for a seated dinner or a standing reception, the conservatory turning candlelit and theatrical after dark, with in-house catering, a serious wine programme and an events team to dress the room. It suits a milestone celebration, an engagement dinner or a small launch far better than any ballroom, and the central WC2 address puts it minutes from the theatres and the piazza.
