Bechstein Hall

Bechstein Hall opened in November 2024, returning the C. Bechstein name to Wigmore Street after more than a century away. The firm took premises at no. 40 in 1889 and opened a recital room at no. 36 in 1901; that hall was confiscated in 1916 and reopened the following year under the name Wigmore Hall. The new room sits a few doors along at no. 22, on the ground floor of a building the Brinsmead piano company had redeveloped in 1892 to designs by the architect Leonard Hunt, and where Brinsmead put its own 130-seat hall in 1894.
The hall takes up to 102 guests, seated across four shallow raked levels facing a stage that keeps a concert grand in place. Timber panelling runs the length of both walls, backlit between the bays, and the ceiling is set with points of light. It is a room built for listening, which suits an evening where someone is going to speak or play.
The lower ground floor carries the hospitality: a restaurant, a bar and a lounge, plus a curtained private dining room let for exclusive use. Hire covers corporate functions, private concerts, recording sessions and celebrations, with canapé receptions for up to 100 and seated dinners for up to 65. The lower ground floor is reached by stairs and a lift, and Bond Street is 300 metres from the door.

Concert Hall
Exclusive HireThe ground-floor auditorium, taking up to 102 guests across four shallow raked levels facing a stage that keeps a concert grand in place. Exclusive HireA curved bar on the lower ground floor, backed by a full spirits shelf and set about with small tables on a chequerboard floor. Open during performances and taken as part of a reception.
Lounge
Exclusive HireThe softest room in the building: low sofas and standing tables under globe pendants, fluted timber on one side and panelled grey-blue on the other. The natural place for a canapé reception before or after a performance.
Private Dining Room
PrivateA curtained room off the restaurant, one long table beneath a glass chandelier. Let for exclusive use for meetings, small celebrations and dinners before a performance, with catering from the kitchen next door.

Bond Street is 300 metres away (Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines); Oxford Circus is 400 metres (Central, Victoria and Bakerloo lines). Step-free access to every part of the building is via the box-office entrance on the right-hand side of the Wigmore Street frontage, with a passenger lift down to the bar, restaurant and lounge.
