Nadine Sierra and Bryan Wagorn open Wigmore Hall's season with a gala concert on Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 7.30pm.
Nadine Sierra won the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions in 2007 as the youngest singer ever to take it, having won the Marilyn Horne Foundation’s competition the year before on the same distinction. The Richard Tucker Award came in 2017 and the Met’s Beverly Sills Artist Award in 2018, and the American soprano now sings Gilda, Lucia and Juliette at the Met, La Scala, the Paris Opera and the Staatsoper Berlin. She records for Deutsche Grammophon, and her voice is the light, high, agile kind that carries a house without ever sounding as though it is trying to.
Wigmore Hall opens its season once a year and gives the night to one singer. Everything that follows over the next nine months is a recital or a chamber concert built on the same small platform, so the gala is less a party than a statement of what the hall thinks the year is for. The hall opened in 1901 and has programmed almost nothing but song and chamber music since.
