Vox Luminis: Monteverdi Vespers

Vox Luminis bring Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine to Wigmore Hall on Sunday 20 September 2026, directed from within the ensemble by Lionel Meunier. First published in 1610, the Vespers set the Latin service of evening prayer in both the old polyphony and the new Italian manner at once. Two hours with an interval, tickets from £18. Vox Luminis take the work one voice to a part, with period instrumentalists — a considerably smaller sound than the massed choirs the Vespers usually receive, and the reason the work fits inside a recital room at all.
