The Mozartists: Sturm und Drang

Ian Page conducts The Mozartists at Wigmore Hall on Thursday 24 September 2026, with the soprano Chiara Skerath, in a programme built around the 250th anniversary of Friedrich Klinger’s play Sturm und Drang. The first half sets Kraus’s Symphony in C minor beside arias from Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide, Jommelli’s Fetonte and Mozart’s La finta giardiniera; the second turns to Traetta’s Antigona and Haydn, ending on the Symphony No. 45 in F sharp minor. A pre-concert talk by Page runs at quarter past six. The ‘Farewell’ ends by emptying the platform, the players leaving in turn until two violins are left, which is a stranger thing to watch in a room of this size than in the orchestral hall it is usually given in.
