Simple Minds bring the V Tour to The O2 arena on Thursday 6 May 2027, fifty years after Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill started the band in Glasgow.
Simple Minds formed in Glasgow in 1977 and are built now round the two members who were there at the start, Jim Kerr singing and Charlie Burchill on guitar. The first three albums sold very little; the fourth, Sons and Fascination, took them into the British top twenty in 1981. New Gold Dream, the year after, was the record that turned an art-rock band from the Glasgow suburbs into an arena act, reaching the top ten in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden and putting three singles into the British top forty, Promised You a Miracle among them.
Don’t You (Forget About Me), written for The Breakfast Club in 1985, went to number one in America and is still the song most people can name. Once Upon a Time followed it to number one in Britain the same year, went three times platinum here and produced four more hit singles in Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself, All the Things She Said and Ghostdancing. Belfast Child took them back to the top of the British chart in 1989.
The V Tour reaches The O2 arena on Thursday 6 May 2027, with Gary Numan as special guest and further support on the bill. The name counts five decades. Kerr and Burchill have been in the band since 1977 and are the only two of whom that is true.
