Danish String Quartet: Schubert and Thomas Adès

The Danish String Quartet is joined by the cellist Johannes Rostamo at Wigmore Hall on Wednesday 23 September 2026 for Schubert’s String Quintet in C, D956, finished weeks before the composer’s death in 1828. After the interval comes the UK premiere of Thomas Adès’s Wreath — for Franz Schubert, a single movement the quartet itself commissioned, followed by ‘Die Nebensonnen’ from Winterreise arranged by the quartet’s violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen. Two hours with an interval, tickets from £18. The Adès is placed after the Quintet rather than before it, so the premiere is heard as an answer to the Schubert rather than a prelude to it.
