The British Independent Film Awards, founded in 1998 and known for naming tomorrow’s stars first, hold their ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden.
The British Independent Film Awards, the first major awards body to recognise Florence Pugh and John Boyega, meet at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm on Sunday 6 December 2026.
Raindance created BIFA in 1998, and it now runs as a community interest company. It honours independently funded British film, and its winners are settled by discussion, with no single ballot.
Its early recognition also went to Ben Whishaw, Letitia Wright and directors including Lynne Ramsay and Steve McQueen. Beside the ceremony it runs a development programme for emerging writers, directors and producers.
The Roundhouse became the ceremony’s home in 2024 and is booked until 2027. Lou Sanders and Harriet Kemsley hosted the 2025 ceremony there on 30 November. Selected longlists for 2026 came out from 12 October, and the full nominations follow on 3 November.
The evening is a seated dinner in the round main space for the nominees, their guests and the companies that support the awards. An after-party follows from 22:00.
One award is decided outside the industry. For Cinema of the Year, more than 75 regional cinemas entered and the public voted, and the winner is announced live on the night.
