The British Grand Prix returns to Silverstone in July 2027.
The British Grand Prix was first run at Brooklands in 1926 and moved to a decommissioned bomber airfield in Northamptonshire in 1948, where the perimeter track became Silverstone. That circuit held the opening round of the first Formula One world championship in 1950. The race alternated with Aintree through the 1950s and with Brands Hatch from 1963 to 1986, and has belonged to Silverstone alone since 1987, which is longer than any other venue has held it.
Silverstone is fast in a way modern circuits are not permitted to be. Copse, Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel are taken at speeds that reward a car with aerodynamic load and expose one without it, and drivers consistently rate the sequence among the hardest anywhere on the calendar. The crowd is the other half of the fixture, because most of the teams on the grid are designed and built within an hour’s drive of the gate.
The 2027 race is on Sunday 4 July, with the meeting opening on Friday 2 July. The Royal Automobile Club Trophy goes to the winner, alongside older awards for the chief mechanic and for the fastest lap. Silverstone has been rebuilding the site continuously since 2017, adding permanent grandstands, a hotel and a technology campus to what was an airfield with a fence around it. The meeting now runs across three days and sells out all of them.
