The sushi restaurant Endo Kazutoshi named after his mother is to open a second room in Marylebone, and the group behind it has yet to publish an opening date.
SUMI began on Westbourne Grove as a restaurant Endo Kazutoshi named after his mother. Its second address will be 26–27 Devonshire Street in Marylebone. Creative Restaurant Group, which runs both, lists SUMI Marylebone as coming soon and has published no opening date.
From Westbourne Grove to W1
The group describes SUMI as the little sister to Endo at the Rotunda, Endo’s omakase counter in White City, and names him its culinary director. In Notting Hill the kitchen is led by executive chef Christian Onia, who works Endo’s style into a menu drawn from Japanese tradition. The Michelin Guide lists the Westbourne Grove restaurant, notes that it expanded into the unit next door in 2022, and singles out the robata dishes on a menu it calls not overly long.
A pale timber room on Devonshire Street
Reports of the move place SUMI in the former Côte restaurant on Devonshire Street, a bigger space than the original. The group has published one render of the new room and no menu. The proposed design is pale timber throughout, with a long communal table set with rattan-backed chairs, banquettes along the walls, lantern-like timber panels hung from the ceiling, and a glass cabinet of fish and meat dry-ageing at the back of the room.
Whether the kitchen keeps the Notting Hill format in the larger room is still open.
