Speedboat Bar

Speedboat Bar sits on Rupert Street, in the Chinatown block of Soho, and takes its cue from the late-night canteens of Bangkok's own Chinatown. Luke Farrell cooks the Thai-Chinese food of Yaowarat Road: chicken skins with zaep seasoning, crispy pork and black pepper curry, braised duck with egg noodles. The ground floor runs long and narrow, tables set close together beneath yellow ribbed walls hung end to end with framed portraits, fish charts and snapshots of Bangkok.

Upstairs is where the private hire lives. The first floor is built as a clubhouse for speedboat racers, with a central bar, a pool table, three screens playing Thai sport and two Thai speedboats hung from the ceiling. It goes out exclusively at 44 seated or 65 standing. The pool table itself is bookable for up to twelve guests standing, with snacks and a run of Singha towers and large-serve cocktails from the bar alongside.

Taken whole, the venue holds 74 seated or 100 standing, with the terrace, the bar, the screens and the sound system included and the seating arranged to suit. The kitchen serves until 12.15am on Fridays and Saturdays, when the room stays open until one, and the music runs to Thai pop and rock. Enquiries go to the events team.
